Biography

About Stanton DeFreitas

A Canadian upbringing, Caribbean roots and international business experience came together to shape a perspective that values curiosity, cultural awareness and a wider view of the world.

Toronto beginnings

Stanton DeFreitas was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and raised in the east end of the city, better known as Scarborough. He is Canadian with Caribbean roots, and his upbringing took place in a city recognized for its extraordinary cultural diversity.

For Stanton, that diversity was more than a feature of city life. It was an education in itself. Through daily exposure to different customs, languages, foods and traditions, he gained an early appreciation for the many ways people build communities and make sense of the world around them.

International business perspective

Stanton later became an international business consultant serving clients across the globe. Business travel introduced him to even more cultures and lifestyles, reinforcing the value he places on seeing the world from more than one vantage point.

Those experiences contributed to a personal philosophy that people should not feel limited by their birthplace or by the opportunities and ideas immediately around them. Instead, he believes individuals can benefit from making a deliberate effort to broaden their horizons spiritually, academically and culturally.

Writing aspirations

Stanton aspires to share that philosophy through writing. His interests span world events, international travel, international sport, and health and wellness. Though these subjects may seem broad, he sees a common thread running through them: each can reveal something useful about human experience, adaptation, challenge and growth.

His perspective on sport, for example, is rooted in the idea that preparation, setbacks, competition and triumph often mirror the realities of life. His interest in health and wellness reflects a similarly practical view: personal wellbeing can shape nearly every other opportunity available to us.

A global frame of reference

At the center of Stanton’s outlook is a simple idea: people gain something valuable when they learn beyond the limits of their immediate environment. Culture, education, travel, business and wellbeing can each become pathways toward a broader understanding of the world.
